As part of the conference, a Grown On Oahu
Bus Tour will be offered for the first time ever, on Saturday September
25, 2010 with pick up from the front lobby entrance of the Ihilani
Resort at 8am, and return at 2pm. This exclusive, Grown on Oahu
bus tour shows how Oahu farmers have diversified to supplement their
farm income.
This tour will be an up close and personal
view of how three different agricultural operations created sustainability
and innovation which resulted in their ongoing growth and survival
in Hawaii's challenging agricultural industry.
Our first stop will be at Kahuku Farm which
is a family-owned operation growing papayas, mangos, eggplant, taro
leaves and vanilla. Then we'll head to Kualoa Ranch in Ka'awa Valley,
to see how ag tourism has sustained this ranch and finally, the
old adage that it takes a "village to raise a child" is
demonstrated daily at Ma'o Organic Farms, where agriculture offers
more than food for this Waianae community.
If checking out that day, please ask bellmen
to hold your luggage. Price is $50 per person, plus tax. Lunch included,
chicken or vegetarian. Seating is limited and offered online till
September 17, 2010. Any seats left will be offered at the conference
on 9/23 directly from the Hawaii AgriTourism Association table.
No tickets will be mailed. Simply print a copy of your receipt.
